The health benefits of water melon include kidney disorders, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart care, heat stroke, muscular degeneration, impotence, etc.
What’s so much the fuss about this Water Melon? Isn’t it nothing more than a ball full of water? Okay! I know there cannot be a more refreshing thing than a big, chilled wedge of water melon in tropical summers and it sports a stylish scientific name of Citrullus Lanatus. But then there are others too. So, what’s special about it? I am afraid, there are lots of them.
How about having a refreshing glimpse of them? Given below are some health benefits of water melon:
*Kidney Disorders: Water Melon contains a lot of potassium, which is very helpful in cleaning or washing off the toxic depositions in the kidneys. Moreover, it is helpful in reducing concentration of uric acid in the blood, thereby reducing the chances of kidney damages and formation of renal calculi in it. Added to these, being high in water content, it induces frequent urinating, which is again helpful for cleaning of kidneys. Also, the anti oxidants present in ensure good health of kidneys for a long.
*High Blood Pressure: A good amount of Potassium and magnesium, present in water melons, are very good in bringing down the blood pressure. The carotenoids present in them prevent hardening of walls of arteries and veins, thereby helping reduce blood pressure.
*Prevent Heat Stroke: Water melon is effective in reducing your body temperature and blood pressure. Many people in the tropical regions eat the fruit daily in the afternoon during summers to protect themselves from heat stroke. In India, you will find the fruit being sold by vendors in almost every street during summers.
*Diabetes: Diabetes patients, who are supposed to have low energy and low sugar diet, often complaint about starving since they don’t get to eat their staple diet to their full, giving them a feeling of keeping half fed. Water Melons can be a good supplement for them. In spite of being sweet in taste, a thick wedge will give you very few calories, since ninety nine percent of its total weight is composed of water and roughage. Moreover, the various vitamins and minerals such as potassium and magnesium help in proper functioning of insulin in the body, thus lowering the blood sugar level. Arginine, another component found in water melons, is very effective in enhancing impact of insulin on sugar. Diabetes patients can also have curries, steaks, salads made from water melon rinds which are even lower in sugar.
*Heart Care: Lypocene, a carotenoid found in abundance in water melon, improves cardiac functions. Beta carotene, known for its remarkable anti oxidant and anti aging properties, also keeps you young at the heart and prevents age related cardiac problems. The roughage in water melon and its very low energy, with help from vitamin-C, Carotenoids and potassium (potassium cuts the risk of a heart attack), help reduce cholesterol and keep your heart safe.
*Macular Degeneration: Leave your worry of eyes on that beta carotene, that vitamin-C and those Lutein and Zeaxanthin. They will ensure protection of your eyes from macular degeneration. They are experts in that. These anti oxidants will protect your eyes from other age related ailments such as drying up of eyes and optical nerves, glaucoma etc.
*Impotence: Arginine, present in water melon, is beneficial in curing erectile dysfunctions.
Other Benefits: Lypocene is found to be effective in preventing cancer, prostrate growth and repair damaged tissues. Water melon seeds are rich in good fats and proteins. Water melons also contain phytonutrients which have very good effect on the health and proper functioning of internal organs, eyes, secretion system etc.
Another benefit of watermelon melon is that it reduces hardening of arteries.
The model used for a study involved mice with diet-induced high cholesterol. One group was just given water to drink while the experimental group was given watermelon juice.
By week eight of the study conducted by the University of Kentucky, mice given watermelon juice had lower body weight than the other group due to decrease of fat mass, according to a varsity statement.
Atherosclerosis occurs when fat, cholesterol and other substances build up in the walls of arteries and form hard structures called plaques. They experienced no decrease in lean mass.
“Melons have many health benefits,” said lead investigator Sibu Saha from Kentucky University. “Our ultimate goal is to identify bioactive compounds that would improve human health.”

The cyst removed was filled with a dark colored blood. She thought that she would be recovered after the surgery but! she was terribly wrong. A relapse occurred just a few months later. Distressed , she rushed down to her gynecologist for a consultation.
During her consultation, her doctor asked her a question that puzzled her.
He ask if she was a frequent consumer of chicken wings and she replied yes wondering as to how, he knew of her eating habits. You see, the truth is in this modern day and age; chickens are injected with steroids to accelerate their growth so that the needs of this society can be met. This need is none other than the need for food. Chickens that are injected with steroids are usually given the shot at the neck or the wings.
Therefore, it is in these places that the highest concentration of steroids exists.
These steroids have terrifying effects on the body as it accelerates growth..
It has an even more dangerous effect in the presence of female hormones, this leads to women being more prone to the growth of a cyst in the womb. Therefore, I advise the people out there to watch their diets and to lower their frequency of consuming chicken wings!

There is hope for men who are looking for a natural cure to treat infertility Researchers in Nigeria have discovered the extracts of the leaves of Pdidium guava produce positive effects on the production and health of sperm. Native to Brazil, Guava is abundant in tannins, phenols, triterpenes, flavonoids, essential oils, saponins, and fatty acids
The health benefits of guava tealeaves are well documented. Ethno-botanists have studied their role in traditional medicine for years. Since the 1950s, guava leaves have been a well-known topic in scientific research. Szu-Chuan Shen, Fang-Chi Cheng, and Ning-Jung Wu did a study on the effects of guava on diabetes in 2008. Diabetic rats fed with guava leaves had a subsequent significant drop in blood sugar. Ojewole (2006), Chen et al. (2007) and Mahfuzul Hoque et al. (2007) have all done studies on guavas’ role in the treatment of cancer, bacterial infections, inflammation, and pain. Their folk use as a treatment for diarrhea, dysentery, and fever is currently under investigation.
Guava leaves are generally regarded as safe, given their long historical use by native populations and in modern industrial societies. Anyone using guava leaves to improve their health is less likely to run into nasty side effects than with more experimental drug remedies. There is increasing evidence that guava leaves are directly beneficial in treating infertility.
What the Studies Say …
Wistar rats have now shown the merit of guava leaves, according to recent studies. Research from the Department of Anatomy in the University of Llorinhas revealed more potential benefits of Guava leaves. Researchers there published a study in the African Journal of Medicine regarding the properties of the plants. The study concerned how extract from guava affected sperm counts in Wistar rats. The 18 Wister rats weighed a maximum of 124 g. They were subdivided into three groups, with 6 animals in each group. The first group was given 250 mg of the extract, whereas the second group was given 500 mg. The third group was given a saline placebo, as a control group. The sperm counts increased significantly in the first groups when the results were compared to the control group for each animal. That is, when the results were compared to rats that didn’t receive anything. Guava extract demonstrated a positive effect.
Guava has been used in other traditional cures as well, though recent studies like this one may indicate that the full curative properties of the plant are not yet fully known. Other uses of guava leaves include helping those with sore throats and inflamed gums. Guava has a fairly wide range amongst many tropical climates and habitats; so many cultures have had the opportunity to experience its benefits.
As a result of these abilities, and the new abilities seen in conjunction with the Wistar rats, researchers are becoming more enthusiastic about launching new studies to see what kind of other curative powers guava leaves may have in relation to all aspects of human health, including male sexuality. Overall, guava leaves appear to affect both the production and quality of sperm. One day, guava leaves and their components may be incorporated into other new drugs, or they will be specifically marketed towards men with fertility problems. Just as natural remedies like blueberries and pomegranate juice have taken off and increased in consumer popularity, guava may one day be directly associated with extensive health benefits, in the public consciousness
Rich In Vitamins
Guava is full of fiber, folic acid, vitamin A and C, potassium, copper, and manganese. In fact, oranges contain only one quarter of the level of vitamin C found in guava. Guavas are also high in antioxidants. Folic acid and antioxidants have both been shown to be beneficial when addressing infertility and other health problems, which may be the reason behind some of the fruits healing benefits. Infertility is a health problem like any other, and anything that promotes general health can help promote fertility. Guava has clearly demonstrated its ability to promote general health in more ways than one.

Bananas contain three natural sugars – sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.
Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world’s leading athletes.
But energy isn’t the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.
According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.
Forget the pills – eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.
High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.
This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit’s ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.
200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school ( England ) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.
High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.
One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.
Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.
Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.
Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.
Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system..
Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.
The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.
Many other cultures see bananas as a ‘cooling’ fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.
So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has FOUR TIMES the protein, TWICE the carbohydrate, THREE TIMES the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals.. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, ‘A BANANA a day keeps the doctor away!’
PASS IT ON TO YOUR FRIENDS…
PS: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time! I will add one here; want a quick shine on our shoes?? Take the INSIDE of the banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe…polish with dry cloth. Amazing fruit !!
High blood pressure or hypertension – to give it the correct medical term – is regarded as the
silent killer. It is a disease of the modern age. The fast pace of life and the mental and physical
pressures caused by the industrial and metropolitan environments give rise to psychological
tensions. Worry and mental tension increases the adrenaline in the blood stream and this, in
turn, causes the pressure of the blood to rise.
The blood which circulates through the arteries within the body supplies every cell with
nourishment and oxygen. The force exert by the heart as it pumps the blood into the large
arteries creates a pressure within them and this is called blood pressure. A certain level of blood
pressure is thus essential to keep the blood circulating in the body. But when the pressure
becomes too high, it results in hypertension which is caused by spasm or narrowing of the small
blood vessels, known as capillaries, throughout the body. This narrowing puts more stress on
the heart to pump blood through the blood vessels. Hence, the pressure of the blood to get
through rises in proportion to the pressure on the heart.
The blood pressure is measured with the instrument called sphygmomanometer in millimeters of
mercury. The highest pressure reached during each heart beat is called systolic pressure and
the lowest between the two beats is known as diastolic pressure. The first gives the pressure of
the contraction of the heart as it pushes the blood on its journey through the body and indicates
the activity of the heart. The second represents the pressure present in the artery when the heart
is relaxed and shows the condition of the blood vessels. The blood pressure level considered
normal is 120/70, but may go up to 140 /90 and still be normal. Within this range, the lower the
reading, the better. Blood pressure between 140/90 and 160/95 is considered border line area.
From 160/96 to 180/114 , it is classed as moderate hypertension, while 180/115 and upward is
considered severe. A raised diastolic pressure is considered more serious than the raised
systolic pressure as it has a serious long-term effect. The higher the pressure the greater the
danger it causes to the wall.
Mild and moderate hypertension may not produce any symptoms for years. The first symptoms
may appear in the form of pain toward the back of the head and neck on waking in the morning,
which soon disappears. Some of the other usual symptoms of hypertension are dizziness, aches
and pains in the arms, shoulder region, leg, back, etc., palpitations, pain in the heart region,
frequent urination, nervous tension and fatigue, crossness, emotional upset, tiredness and
A person suffering from high blood pressure cannot do any serious work, feels tired and out of
sorts all the time. He may experience difficulty in breathing and suffer from dyspepsia.
Hypertension, if not eliminated, may cause heart attacks or strokes or other disability conditions
such as detachment of the retina.
The most important causes of hypertension are stress and a faulty style of living. People who
are usually tense suffer from high blood pressure, especially when under stress. If the stress
continues for a long period, the pressure may become permanently raised and may not become
even after removal of the stress. An irregular life style, smoking and an excessive intake of
intoxicants, tea, coffee, cola drinks, refined foods, destroy the natural pace of life. The expulsion
of waste and poisonous matter from the body is prevented and the arteries and the veins
become slack. hardening of the arteries , obesity, diabetes and severe constipation also lead to
hypertension. Other causes of high blood pressure are excessive intake of pain killers, common
table salt, food allergies and eating a high fat, low fibre diet, processed foods deficient in
The kidneys play an important role in controlling blood pressure through secretion of rennin, a
natural chemical. If increased rennin is secreted by the kidneys, more salts are retained in the
body, which leads to an increase in the volume of circulating blood and consequently to an
increase in the blood pressure. Repeated infections and inflammation in the kidneys can also
give rise to hypertension.
The modern medical treatment of high blood pressure is highly unscientific as it brings down the
pressure by drugs without making any effort to remove the underlying causes. Drugs may
temporarily reduce blood pressure, but they do not cure the condition and are harmful in the
ultimate analysis. All drugs against hypertension without exception, are toxic and have
distressing side effects. The safest way to cure hypertension is to remove the real cause. The
natural way of dealing with it is to eliminate the poisons from the system which cause it.Persons
with high blood pressure should always follow a well-balanced routine of proper diet, exercise
and rest. Diet is of primary importance. Meat and eggs cause the blood pressure to rise more
than any other food. The pressure is lowered and blood clotting diminished by partaking of a
higher fruit content, lower protein and non-flesh diet. A natural diet consisting of fresh fruits and
vegetables, instead of a traditional diet, is helpful in getting rid of the poisons from the body. A
hypertension patient should start the process of healing by living on an exclusive fruit-diet for
atleast a week, and take fruits at five-hourly intervals thrice in the day. Oranges, apples, pears,
mangoes, guava, pineapples, raspberry, water-melon are the best diet in such cases. Bananas
and jack fruit should not be taken. Milk may be taken after a week of ‘fruits only’ diet. The milk
should be fresh and should be boiled only once. The patient can be permitted cereals in his food
after two weeks.
Vegetables are also good for the patient of hypertension. They should preferably be taken raw. If
they are cooked, it should be ensured that their natural juices are not burnt in the process of
cooking. Vegetables like cucumber, carrot, tomatoes, onion, radish, cabbage and spinach are
best taken in their raw form. They may be cut into small pieces and sprinkled with a little salt and
the juice of a lemon added to them so as to make them more palatable.
Garlic is regarded as one of the most effective remedies to lower blood pressure. The pressure
and tension are reduced because it has the power to ease the spasms of the small arteries.
Garlic also slows the pulse and modifies the heart rhythm besides relieving the symptoms of
dizziness, numbness, shortness of breath and the formation of gas within the digestive tract. The
average dosage should be two to three capsules a day to make a dent in the blood pressure.
Indian gooseberry (amla) is another effective food remedy for high blood pressure. A
tablespoonful each of fresh amla juice and honey mixed together should be taken every morning
in this condition. Lemon is also regarded as a valuable food to control high blood pressure. It is a
rich source of vitamin P which is found both in the juice and peel of the fruit. This vitamin is
essential for preventing capillary fragility.
Watermelon is another valuable safeguard against high blood pressure. It was proved in recent
experiments that a substance extracted from watermelon seeds has a definite action in dilating
the blood vessels, which results in lowering the blood pressure.
Recent studies have revealed an important link between dietary calcium and potassium and
hypertension. Researchers have found that people who take potassium-rich diets have a low
incidence of hypertension even if they do not control their salt-intake. They have also found that
people with hypertension do not seem to get much calcium in the form of dairy products. The
two essential nutrients seem to help the body throw off excess sodium and are involved in
important functions which control the working of the vascular system. Potassium is found in
abundance in fruits and vegetables and calcium in dairy products.
Exercise plays an important role in curing hypertension. Walking is an excellent form of exercise.
It helps to relieve tension, builds up the muscles and aids in the circulation of blood. As the blood
pressure shows signs of abating, more exercise like bicycling, swimming, jogging should be
Description of the Neem Tree (Azadirchata indica)
The neem tree, Azadirachta indica, a miracle plant as is popularly called is a tropical evergreen with a wide adaptability. Native to India and Burma, it has been transplanted to Africa, the Middle East, South America and Australia. It is especially suited to semi-arid conditions and thrives even in the poorest soil with rainfalls as little as 18 inches (450 mm) per year and temperatures up to 50° C (120° F). It may grow up to 50 feet (15 m) tall and live for 200 years.
Its blossoms are small, white flowers with a very sweet, jasmine-like scent. Its edible fruit — loved by children in Africa — is about 3/4 of an inch (2 cm) long, with white kernels. A neem tree generally begins bearing fruits at three to five years of age, and can produce up to 50 kg (110 lbs.) of fruit annually when mature. The pinnate leaves have a very bitter taste and a garlic-like smell.
Due to its medical and insecticidal properties, the neem tree has been widely used in the traditional medicine and agriculture in India. Apart form Azadirchata indica there are two other know species of neem: siamensis azadirachtaand exceisa azadirachta
Different parts of Neem tree and its oil extracted out of seed is being used in different parts of the world for different purposes. Two decades of research has revealed promising results in many disciplines like medicines, cosmetics and agriculture etc. This obscure species may be on the cusp of bringing enormous benefits to countries both poor and rich. Even some of the most cautious researchers are saying that Neem deserves to be called a wonder plant. These days many types of products are being consumed in daily life around the world made out of Neem and it’s by-products.

Aloe Vera or A. Vera is a plant common in most countries during the present era, though its origins can be traced to the northern Africa region. It is a succulent plant with a waxy outter structure and a gel-like inner structure.
Aloin, a chemical found in the gel of the Aloe Vera plant is a toxic chemical both when ingested or applied topically (to the skin). It has been linked to cancerous behavior in tissues when tested on male and female rats and causes various side effects when ingested or applied in large amounts in humans.
Although Aloe Vera has been treated as the godsend for all cosmetics it’s actually quite weak as both a moisturizer and a conditioner. Aloe Vera gel has water retention properties but when the gel is thinned out or crushed it loses those properties in favor of its stiffness. Furthermore it’s actually quite toxic in large quantities which they seem to brush over quite a bit.
|Parts used:||resin, gel extracted from the leaf|
|Constituents:||Hydroxyanthracene derivatives of the anthrone type (principally barbaloin); 7-hydroxyaloin isomers, aloe-emodin, chrysophanol and their glycosides; chromone derivatives (aloesin and its derivatives aloeresins A and C, and the aglycone aloesone. Gel: glucomannan (a polysaccharide), steroids, organic acids, enzymes, antibiotic principles, amino acids, saponins, minerals.|
|Actions:||latex: cathartic, laxative, emmanogogue, digestive stimulant
Gel: immune system stimulant, skin healing, anti-irritant, moisturizing, anti-cancer
Traditionally Aloe Vera gel is used as a soothing topical application for sunburns and minor burns, abrasions, acne, psoriasis, shingles and even cold sores. The gel can be squeezed directly from the fresh leaf and applied directly to affected areas. Its skin repair qualities on burns, and sub burns is truly remarkable – healing occurs quickly and without scarring. In fact, aloe vera is also used to reduce scarring and stretch marks. Aloe vera shows even seems to protect the skin against the immune suppressant effect of ulta violet rays of the sun – thus it is not only an excellent ‘after sun care’ ingredient, but may also be useful as a protective sunscreen lotion. It is an excellent additive for cosmetic preparations as it can moisturize and rejuvenate the skin by stimulating synthesis of elastin and collagen.
External application of aloe gel penetrates the skin directly and produces a soothing, pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effect on arthritic joints and tendonitis.
For internal use Aloe Vera latex preparations are usually mixed with antispasmodic herbs to reduce the cramping effect of its laxative action. Used by itself it would produce a rather cathartic and cramping effect. Aloe vera latex also stimulates the uterus and promotes menstrual flow. Pregnant women should avoid the use of Aloe vera as a laxative.
Internally high quality Aloe vera juice preparations can stimulate the immune system. Laboratory studies on mice have shown Aloe to be effective in the treatment of certain types of cancer and HIV, and further studies are on the way.
Aloe juice seems to have an overall healing and balancing effect on the digestive system, improving absorption of nutrients and eliminating toxins. This improves overall cell nutrition and activates the body’s own healing powers. It can relieve gastro-intestinal problems associated with peptic or duodenal ulcers, improve regularity and enhance energy levels. It is also used to soothe colitis and irritable bowel syndrome. In fact many chronic conditions have a prominent digestive imbalance component, which triggers secondary symptoms due to malabsorption and subsequent cellular malnutrition. Aloe vera juice can help to restore balance to the digestive system.
Furthermore, aloe vera juice seems to have a beneficial effect on the liver and kidney. It appears to reduce levels of blood lipids that can clog up the arteries and lead to coronary heart disease. Aloe vera also seems to be able to reduces blood sugar levels, which can make it a useful nutritional supplement for diabetes sufferers.
Do not use Aloe Vera based laxative during pregnancy. Aloe Vera juice may also be adulterated or contain levels of aloin above what would be deemed safe during pregnancy.
If you are on prescription medication consult with your health advisor regarding possible interference reactions between internal use of Aloe Vera and other medicines.
The quality of Aloe vera gel or juice very much depends on the production process and some aloe vera products currently on the market have little or no medicinal value. Research your source carefully before spending a lot of money on what may essentially turn out to be an inert substance. Whole leaf extractions are recommended. Look for the International Aloe Science Council certificate for assurance on content and purity.
Grow your own
Everybody should have an Aloe Vera plant growing on their kitchen window sill. It is the best instant burn remedy you can have at hand. Growing Aloe Vera is easy, as it is a very undemanding plant. Just don’t over-water it and protect it against freezing temperatures. It loves the sun, but will grow in semi-shade as well. It does not need particularly rich soil. Well draining, sandy soil will do.
When making your own skin care preparations and you want to incorporate the healing benefits of Aloe vera, you can use the gel to replace all or a portion of the amount of liquid your recipe calls for. However, be aware that unprocessed Aloe vera gel is not very stable and won’t keep long, so make small batches only, store it in the fridge and use up quickly. For maximum benefit of Aloe Vera as an ingredient of skin care preparations such products should contain at least 20-40% of gel. Or simply cut off a leaf and rub it straight on the skin.
